1.6 Million More Jobs at Risk from Illegal Subsidies WTO Violations Threaten Jobs Recovery in U.S. Auto IndustryWashington D.C.— More than 400,000 jobs in the U.S. auto supply chain have been lost since 2000 and another 1.6 million U.S. jobs are at risk unless China's illegal trading practices are curtailed, according to three separate reports released today. "Taken together, these three reports show beyond a shadow of a doubt that China's blatant use of illegal government subsidies and a web of predatory trade practices on a massive scale are undercutting companies in the U.S. auto supply chain," said Scott Paul, Executive Director of the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM), a non-profit, non-partisan partnership of leading manufacturers and the United Steelworkers.Read more...

Arlington, VA—The United States lost 28 percent of its high-technology manufacturing jobs over the last decade, as the nation’s rapidly shrinking lead in science and technology in the global marketplace was accompanied by a toll on U.S. high-tech jobs, according to a new study released today by the National Science Board (NSB), the policy making body for the National Science Foundation.Read more...

Last weekend, I worked with USSA (United States Student Association) as an on-site communications coordinator for the 43rd annual grassroots legislative conference and rally against Sallie Mae Corporation. Working on-site was both exciting and stressful and I learned how important it is to stay organized with press releases and media advisories as well as how important it is to stay calm and relaxed during stressful situations.
The legislative conference primarily aimed at educating students from around the country about student loans and how to lobby congress for more support. My role at the conference included updating social media, taking pictures and writing press releases and media advisories. Pitch calls turned out to be easier than I expected, as I kept my confidence high and sold the rally as a should-not-be-missed event.Read more... -

On the very day that Goldman Sachs Executive Greg Smith announced his resignation in revulsion over how the firm is callously “ripping their clients off," Phil Angelides, Chair of the nation’s Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission expressed his continuing disgust with how Wall Street has become “a casino floor as big as New York, New York,” after wiping away $9 trillion of household wealth “like a day trade gone bad.”

A study released by a Stanford University professor shows there is an education gap between rich and poor students. There are many resources that provide assistance to low-income students that aim to give students the opportunity to attend college and succeed. I was involved in a TRIO program called Upward Bound, which caters to first-generation and low-income high school students. The program did not just work to make sure students graduate from high school, but also to attend and graduate from college.Read more...
